Research into and considering the medium of video in the widest possible context was central to this workshop. Is video a means of establishing a relationship with the world around us in which reality and fiction can merge and is the camera a weapon, a means of recording, or a technical eye or spectator?
In the first part of the course, small assignments introduced various aspects of video art, such as loops, performances and installations. The assignments also enabled participants to learn to direct each other. In the second part of the course, participants sharpened their ideas for creating a video artwork through classroom and individual conversations.
This meant that each participant knew which form of video presentation suited him best, in order to be able to convert it into a video artwork in the last week of the course. Naturally, these were presented in a closing exhibition.
