By Tirzo Martha
In this workshop the Caribbean artist Tirzo Martha, who together with David Bade is the driving force behind the IBB on Curaçao, searched with the students for the heroes and anti-heroes in our modern life and in particular life on Aruba. He asked his students: what should our modern heroes look like? What should they do? What would we immediately need a hero for? Maybe for our bad roads? Maybe for our spiritual oxygen? Perhaps the heroes are very close and live in our neighborhood. The car mechanic, the doctor or the baker. An animal or even an object.
The students were challenged to look at this concept differently and ultimately to create their own hero within an installation in which they perform a performance.
